IPS, most persuaded stream in terms of civil services after IAS. Entrance to both these streams is through UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). IPS stands for Indian Police Services, which is meant to maintain Law and order in the country.

While working for both the Central and State Governments, an I.P.S officer serves both governments with different duties. He serves Central government in organizations like Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Bureau of Investigation, Intelligence Bureau, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) etc. similarly State government is served in organizations like Assistant Superintendent of Police (at the beginning) and the Director-General of Police (at the stage of retirement).

   a. You must be a citizen of India to appear for IPS.

   Physical checkup is the most important test for IPS. IAS and IPS both differ from each other in this case. IAS do not demand for your physical checkup whereas IPS does.

5. Other Physical Checks
   a. Myopia should not exceed minus 4.00 D and Hypermetropia should not exceed plus 4.00 D.

b. Spectacles are allowed.

c. Binocular vision and high-grade vision is required.

6. Exam Pattern
   It conducts three exam step by step. You are allowed to move to next only if you clear the previous. Exams to be cleared stepwise are Prelim Exam, Main Exam, Interview.
